You're walking out of a bar on 5th Avenue around midnight, the phone slips out of your jacket pocket, and it lands screen-down on the sidewalk. Or it's a Sunday afternoon at Petco Park, bases loaded, and it goes flying off the ledge while you're trying to get the home run on video. Either way, you're now looking at a spiderweb of cracks and wondering if you can make it through the weekend before dealing with it.
Driving to a mall kiosk from downtown means giving up parking you probably fought for, and most walk-in shops want the phone for a few hours minimum. That's the gap SD FIX exists to close — we bring the parts and the tools to wherever you actually are.
Why a cracked screen gets worse, not better
A cracked screen isn't just cosmetic. Once the glass is broken, the digitizer underneath — the layer that reads your touch — is exposed to whatever gets into the cracks: pocket lint, coffee, San Diego's marine layer humidity. Touch response usually starts lagging first, right around the edge of the crack. Keep using it and the crack can spread into the display itself, which turns a glass-only repair into a full front-assembly replacement.
Water resistance is also gone the moment the glass cracks, even if the phone still looks mostly fine. A spilled drink on a Gaslamp patio that would've been a non-issue six months ago won't be, once that seal is broken.
What actually happens when we come to you downtown
You book through the site or text us your ZIP and repair type — most requests get a same-day window back. We confirm the device and repair before the tech leaves, so the right screen is already in the van instead of getting guessed at on-site.
The tech meets you wherever's easiest — an office lobby, a coffee shop table, your building's front desk. Most iPhone and Samsung screen swaps run under an hour on a folding mat set up right in front of you. Before we call it done, we test touch response across the full screen, color calibration on newer iPhones, and Face ID or the fingerprint sensor if your model has one.
Glass-only vs. full assembly — why it's not always the same repair
Older iPhones, and a number of Samsung models, let us replace just the outer glass in some cases — faster and cheaper. Most iPhones from the last several years fuse the glass to the OLED panel underneath it, so a cracked screen means replacing the full front assembly: glass, digitizer, and display together. We tell you which one your phone needs before we quote it, not after.
