Your phone takes three seconds to open Maps and you've already missed the turn. Before you write it off, know this: slow is often fixable for free. Whether you're stuck on the I-5 in National City or parked outside a Bonita coffee shop, run these three checks first.
1. Check your storage
A phone that's nearly full gets sluggish, and the camera roll is usually the culprit. Open your storage settings and see how close to the edge you are. Clearing a few big videos can feel like a new phone.
2. Restart it, and update it
Yes, the oldest advice in the book. Hold the power button, turn it off, count to ten, turn it back on. Then check for a pending update. Half of the "my phone is dying" calls we get end here.
3. Look at your battery health
An older battery can't deliver power fast enough, so the phone slows itself down to avoid shutting off. On iPhone, Settings, Battery, Battery Health shows it. Many Androids have a similar screen under battery or device care. If the number is low, or the phone dies at 30 percent, that's your answer.
When it's the battery, not the phone
A new battery is a much smaller job than a new phone, and it often brings the speed back. If storage and updates check out and the battery looks tired, that's the swap to ask about. Not sure which it is? Tell us what the phone is doing when you book and we'll point you the right way.
We come to you
National City, Bonita, downtown or anywhere in Chula Vista: book a repair and we'll come to you. Bring the slow phone. We'll bring the stopwatch.
